![]() Mash PH and water chemistry from Bru'n water.Get efficiency estimation, and plug that back into beersmith, and scale the recipe according to new brewhouse efficiency. Water volumes, temps, mash parameters, and brewday numbers from my mash calculator.BeerSmith 2.12 Builds Download older versions of BeerSmith. Note: This will be the last 32 bit Mac update future versions will be 64 bit only. It doesn't even have American Brewers Malt listed It has 2-row Pale, 6-Row Pale, and Pilsner, but no straight 2-Row Brewers Malt. On the other hand, Brewers Friend frustrates me to no end. Version 2.3.5 for Mac OSX 10.8/Mountain Lion and Earlier. Probably because I've been using Beersmith so long that I'm accustomed to its quirks. One such calculator (mine) is located in my sig, let me know if you have any questions about it. New Feature Summary and Release Notes for BeerSmith 2.3. Setting up beersmith can be cumbersome, I recommend checking out brulosopher's video guides. I definitely recommend using an online calculator in conjunction with setting up your beersmith equipment profile and mash profiles in order to make sure it's calibrated correctly. I don't really recommend any, there's always something that conflicts or doesn't work well when compared to the others. Next is brewtoad, homebrewhedonist, and a couple other free online ones that have small user demographics. They don't seem to update their standalone calculators (the efficiency calculator is horribly inaccurate). Some ingredient malt specs don't match what I get from malsters (or from beersmith), so the efficiencies and gravities don't always line up. Again there's a learning curve, but I don't think it's as thick as beersmith. The biggest issue for recipe formulation in brewtarget is that mash temps don't influence attenuation (FG), this is something they're patching on the next version I believe.īrewers friend is the biggest online "all in one", and is pretty decent. It's getting close, and I like a lot of the new things that the development team has planned for version 2.4. It's a work in progress, and currently I don't think it's quite ready to replace beersmith. The only thing that's inaccurate is the mash chemistry / water adjustment formulas (uses Troeser formulas instead of s), and the yeast starter formulas (uses Jamils formulas instead of Troeser).īrewtarget is an open source free software alternative, that on the surface looks very similar. There's a number of (small-ish) issues with it, and a number of improvements I would make for user friendliness. ![]() We do a 10 minute whirlpool, a 15 minute rest, and it takes about 45 minutes to rack off.Beersmith is the biggest, and is the best "all in one" software. Here is what we did.1) brewed a single 60 min addition stout first and calculated theoretical IBUs using Tinseth.then sent to the lab (it was off by 1 IBU).2) brewed a Pale that had the 1 60 min addition and then a whirlpool addition at flameout and sent it to the lab.Beersmith assumed 0, but when I measured about 35% contribution on top of the 60 minute.I've read anything from 25-50%depending on whirlpool and rack off time as well as how vigorous a boil you have etc.but you need to determine what abount of time to add for each hop addition for your own system.for us it's about 15 minutes, maybe slightly less. Therefore you don't want to assume you will get 125% or more utilization off 60 minute additions. I use Beersmith and didn't change the utilization factor at all.this is because of literature that shows that after 60 minutes the alpha acids present in boiling wort are degraded at about the same rate they are isomerized. I researched this extensively and went from 10 gallons to 7 bbls about 3 months ago with a fairly painless scaling up period.
